WIGAL A WINNER IN MIDWEST THUNDER OPENER AT MONTPELIER

Montpelier, Indiana (May 6, 2023)………Zach Wigal kicked off the USAC Midwest Thunder SpeeD2 Midget season in impressive fashion by collecting Saturday’s opening night victory at Indiana’s Montpelier Motor Speedway.

Wigal (Belpre, Ohio) chased early leader Jakeb Boxell (Yoder, Ind.) for the initial 14 laps before taking over at the front of the field with six laps remaining.  Wigal fended off a late-race challenge from Bryce Massingill to earn his third career series victory and first at the Montpelier quarter mile.

Following Wigal to the finish line were Massingill (Troy, Ohio) in second and reigning series champion Stratton Briggs (Anna, Ohio) in third.  Gunnar Lucius (Delphos, Ohio) brought it home fourth with Ian Creager (Covington, Ohio) rounding out the top-five.

Wigal now sits at the top of the USAC Midwest Thunder SpeeD2 Midget standings for the first time in his career and holds a three-point edge over Massingill.
